LOS ANGELES – December 7, 2015 — (UPI) — The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences released their nominations for the upcoming 2016 Grammy Awards Monday.
Singer and 15-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys appeared on CBS This Morning to announce the nominees which included hip-hop recording artist Kendrick Lamar earning an industry leading 11 nominations with pop star Taylor Swift and singer The Weeknd coming in second place with seven nominations each.
Lamar’s 11 nominations range from Album of the Year and Song of the Year to Best Rap Album, Best Rap Collaboration and Best Music Video. Swift meanwhile took home noms for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and shares nominations with Lamar for their hit collaboration “Bad Blood” which earned recognition in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video categories.
Artists such as singer Ed Sheeran and John Legend also received nominations and expressed their gratitude towards the Academy afterwards on social media. “I wasn’t expecting the Grammy noms, thank you,” Sheeran wrote on Twitter showing his surprise.
“4 Grammy Nominations! Thank you! @TheGRAMMYs,” Legend wrote with his wife Christine Teigen joking “and I just barely made it to the bathroom in time. big day.”
