LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1 (UPI) — Marvel’s upcoming “Avengers” sequel “Infinity War” will no longer be split up into two parts.
According to Variety, “Infinity War'”s title has changed, dropping the “Part 1” subtitle as it now becomes a standalone film.
The previously announced and dated “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” has now been listed as “Untitled Avengers” project.
Both films will still retain their original release dates however with “Infinity War” landing in theaters May 4, 2018 and the followup releasing on May 3, 2019.
Recently, directors Joe and Anthony Russo explained to Uproxx that the third and fourth entries in the series would be re-titled in order to reflect the differences between the two films and how the story of “Infinity War” is not being split into two parts.
The superhero epic will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and more take on the all-powerful Thanos.
Back in January, the Russo’s noted how Infinity War would “unite” the Marvel cinematic universe and feature 67 characters.
“The concept of “Infinity War” is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept,” they said at the time. “People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters.”
