March 1 (UPI) — Actress and comedian Sarah Silverman says she chose her career over motherhood.
The 46-year-old “Masters of Sex” alum defended her decision to not have kids in a series of tweets Monday.
“As a comic always working & on the road I have had to decide between motherhood & living my fullest life & I chose the latter,” Silverman wrote to her 10.1 million followers.
“Men don’t have to do that. I’d so love to be a fun dad, coming home from the road & being my best fun dad self,” she added. “So this is just a lil [expletive] all y’all bc u can’t be a woman w/out sacrifice & that’s the fact jack.”
“I [love] my comedian brothers that acknowledge this truth. They’re my family & for a lot of us women comic sisters, our only family,” the star said.

Silverman does not have any biological children, but is dating actor Michael Sheen, who shares 18-year-old daughter Lily with ex-partner Kate Beckinsale. Beckinsale told ES Magazine in December that Silverman and Lily get along well.
“I really love [Sarah] … and we are lucky we both get on, and Lily gets on great with her — having as many strong females in your teenage daughter’s life as possible is a good thing,” the 43-year-old actress said.
Silverman is known for the Comedy Central sitcom “The Sarah Silverman Program,” and has since played Helen on the Showtime series “Masters of Sex.” She will appear in the movie “Battle of the Sexes” with Emma Stone and Steve Carell.
