TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, May 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 23-year-old woman died after the driver of the car she was riding in swerved to avoid hitting an animal on state Route 73 in Tooele County Saturday night.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. when four individuals in their 20s were traveling together in a vehicle on SR-73, heading home from a camping trip, according to Tooele County Sheriff’s Office officials.
An animal ran in front of the car, officials said, and the driver swerved to avoid hitting it, overcorrected, and the vehicle rolled.
The victim, who was the only one not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the back seat of the vehicle and died at the scene. The other three people in the car suffered only minor injuries, officials said.
The woman’s identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
Officials do not believe at this time there were other contributing factors to the crash, such as impairment.
