Cache K-9 officer Okar retires to fanfare

CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 22, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office is saying goodbye and thanks for the sniffing and protecting to veteran police dog Okar. 

“After years of unwavering service, our courageous K9, Okar, is officially hanging up his badge,” the sheriff’s office announced. “At 8.5 years old, Okar has been an invaluable member of our team since he began his service in February 2018.

“As a dual-purpose police dog, Okar’s high drive, joyful spirit, and love for the job made him a standout in every assignment.” The office also posted a goodbye video online Wednesday.

Okar has worked alongside multiple divisions, including patrol, corrections, the drug task force, the proactive unit, SWAT, and numerous other agencies throughout Cache Valley. “Now, as he transitions from duty, Okar will find a new home with his trusted handler, Deputy Johnson, who will be adopting him into the Johnson family.

“Okar, you’ve been a true protector, a loyal friend, and an exceptional partner. Thank you for your remarkable dedication and service to both us and the entire community. Enjoy your well-earned retirement!”
