CEDAR CITY, Utah, Sept. 4, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 6-year-old boy was run over Monday in the driveway of his Cedar City home.

Cedar City Police Department Sgt. Clint Pollock told Gephardt Daily the accident happened in the area of Westview Drive (4100 West) between 200 South and 300 South at approximately 7:45 a.m.

Pollock said as of Tuesday, the boy’s condition is stable.

Officials said the boy climbed out of a Ford Explorer, driven by his mother, as it was pulling into the driveway. The back tire caught his foot, Pollock said, which caused him to go down to the ground and the tire then ran over his leg.

Family members that were on scene tried to direct the boy’s mother to reverse the vehicle, but she misunderstood and drove the vehicle forward over the right side of the boy’s body.

Pollock said the child was conscious and alert when first responders arrived. The boy was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by Life Flight medical helicopter.

Both Cedar City Police and Iron County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, Pollock.

The mother will not be facing any citations, Pollock said.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
