WEST HAVEN, Utah, May 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah Highway Patrol trooper’s cruiser, parked on the freeway shoulder with overheads flashing, was hit by a motorist and knocked into the path of another vehicle.

“A visual reminder of the importance of slowing down and moving over,” the UHP said in an online post Tuesday. Luckily, the trooper was outside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Trooper Wirth had been dispatched to remove a piece of plywood in the lanes of I-15 at 2100 South in West Haven, according to the UHP press release.

“While stopped on the shoulder with his emergency lights activated, another driver swerved to avoid the plywood and crashed into the rear of his patrol car.

“Trooper Wirth’s car was subsequently pushed into traffic and hit by a second car.”

Fortunately, everyone involved in the crash sustained only minor injuries.

“An important reminder to secure your load, slow down, and move over.”
