VERACRUZ, Mexico, July 13, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – Elizabeth Gonzales, the missing 14-year-old Ogden girl who was the subject of an international search by the FBI has been found safe in Mexico.

A statement posted on X early Saturday morning by the Salt Lake City FBI Office said the teen was “safely recovered in Veracruz, Mexico.”

No other information was immediately available.

An earlier statement released Friday by the FBI said Gonzalez was visiting family in Mexico City when she disappeared along with two cousins, ages 6 and 4.

According to the statement, investigators believed the minors were with Elizabeth’s uncle, identified as Antonio Moreno.

The FBI said Moreno, who had been living in Kaysville the last three years, was the younger girls’ father, and had abruptly traveled to Mexico City with the three children on June 30 without their mothers’ permission.

Relatives had “not seen or heard from them since,” and agents believed the girls were in danger.

It was unclear from the Saturday morning statement if the two younger children and Moreno had been found.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
