TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 10, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was flown to the hospital by Life Flight on Saturday night after being injured earlier in the day when he wrecked his motorcycle in Skull Valley.
Tooele County Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Johnson told Gephardt Daily the man, his son and his son’s friend were riding motorcycles in the area.
At about 3:30 p.m., they were running out of gas, so the father headed back to his truck.
When he didn’t return by dark, his son and the friend, both young adults, went looking for him, Johnson said.
It took the two younger men quite some time to reach the truck, and when they did, they realized that the father hadn’t made it that far and was missing. They immediately called for help.
Tooele County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue responded, along with the Utah Highway Patrol helicopter. They began searching at 10 p.m., Johnson said, and the UHP helicopter found the injured man at about 11:15 p.m.
The man had wrecked his motorcycle at Mile Marker 71 near the Delle exit, and had serious back injuries.
Johnson said the man, who was not identified, was flown to the hospital “alive and doing well,” despite his experience.
Skull Valley is a popular area for motorcycles, off-road vehicles and ATVs, Johnson said. He added, “We appreciate all the help we get from Search and Rescue and UHP.”
Fabulous efforts by all search and rescue, and loved ones.
