SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 10, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An angry protest against president-elect Donald Trump drew 2,000 plus people to downtown Salt Lake City Thursday night, forcing Salt Lake City police to block off streets for the safety of marchers.
It’s the second protest in as many nights, but this group, organized through the Facebook page No to Trump’s Agenda, reportedly drew a larger and angrier crowd than Wednesday night’s gathering, with more signs, more chanting and more adult language. And the protest, scheduled to end at 8:30 p.m., was still going strong at 9:30 p.m.
The No to Trump’s Agenda page provided a mission statement:
We stand against war, racism, sexism, homophobia. The many things Donald Trump has championed throughout this election.
Our demands:
– No mass deportations! Not one more!
– No border wall, no border militarization!
– No ban on Muslims! Refugees are welcome here!
– Defend Muslim & Arab immigrants & communities! No Islamophobic attacks.
– Hands off Syria!
We stand for the working and oppressed people in our fight for equality and justice in this corrupt system. We need to boldly speak out against the coming offensive of racist, anti-worker, misogynist, homophobic hate.
This Thursday, we stand together against war. We stand together against racism, anti-LGBTQ hatred, and all forms of vicious hate.
Ha says “we stand against war, against anti lbgtq hatred, and all kinds vicious hatred” I am sorry but how do those signs not go against what they are against. This just blows my mind how just incredibley obsurd this is.THEY ARE DOING THE VERY THING THEY ARE AGAINST! How do they not get this! It just blows my mind.
Camille, Peacefully Protesting is a right guaranteed by our Constitution. If they are simply stating their opinion in the a group, and not being violent or breaking or burning stuff, I don’t understand how stating your opinion “goes against what they are against.”
They say they “hate” Trump. If they’re against hatred, then how can they hate Trump?
