SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 6, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — It wasn’t flames that brought out Salt Lake City firefighters early Wednesday morning.
But it was a safety concern.
A brief period of high winds brought down branches, which blocked roadways and traffic.
So firefighters came out to help assess the situation.
“During wind events, we are often called out to investigate and mitigate downed power lines or damaged structures from falling trees and limbs,” Hannah Youell, Salt Lake City Fire spokeswoman, told Gephardt Daily.
“Crews do not usually remove the limbs, but do ensure a safe area or exclude the public from a danger.
“We then reach out to partners to deal with the issue – Rocky Mountain Power lines, Building and Housing for structure damage, City arborists and clean-up crews, etc.”
