Spanish Fork emergency crews respond to head-on collision between school bus, garbage truck

SPANISH FORK, Utah, Aug. 8, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Several students were transported to local hospitals after a head-on collision between a garbage truck and a school bus in Spanish Fork Thursday afternoon.

“Spanish Fork Police as well as Fire/EMS were dispatched to a school bus vs. garbage truck head-on collision around 3 p.m.,” says a statement issued by Spanish Fork City. “The accident occurred at the intersection of 630 West 400 North.

“The garbage truck was eastbound on 400 North and the school bus was westbound on 400 North attempting to turn south towards the new Spanish Fork High School.”

“Per the Fire Chief several students were transported for minor injuries as well as the driver of the garbage truck.”

“The school bus is from Washington County and was transporting High School aged students to an athletic event.”

The students on the bus were members of the varsity girls’ soccer team from Dixie High School, in St. George.

The incident remains under investigation, Spanish Fork City’s statement says.
