SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 25, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – Salt Lake City police are investigating a Friday night auto-pedestrian accident which sent a 22-year-old man to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

According to Detective Dalton Beebe, public information officer for the Salt Lake City Police Department, the potentially lethal accident happened about 7:45 p.m. near 1160 South State Street in SLC’s Ballpark neighborhood.

Based on the preliminary investigation, a 62-year-old woman driving southbound in a white SUV hit the 22-year-old as he was crossing the street.

Beebe told Gephardt Daily it was unclear if the victim was in a crosswalk when he was struck.

“The driver of the SUV remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation,” Beebe said.

“Because of the severity of the injuries, the on-duty watch commander requested the help of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians.”

Southbound travelers on State Street were being diverted to Main Street at Herbert Avenue. The detour was expected to remain in place for several hours.
