Lea DeLaria, who plays Big Boo on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, was pushed to her limit on the M train in New York City on Tuesday when she encountered the minister, who is known among commuters for his evangelical hate-speech.
Proudly wearing a “Bad Jew” T-shirt and a “God Hates Bags” tote bag, DeLaria led the train car in a round of “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall,” trying to stop the preacher.
When the rousing drinking song didn’t work, DeLaria took matters into her own hands and went toe-to-toe with the man. Generally speaking, confrontations on the subway are discouraged, no matter who you are.
“You’re part of the reason America’s in trouble,” DeLaria shouts at the man in the video below. According to Gothamist, she argues with him for several stops. Things grow especially tense after the man calls DeLaria a homosexual slur.
DeLaria’s fans gave the actress plenty of kudos on Twitter for speaking her mind.
