WATKINSVILLE , Ga., Jan. 5 (UPI) — A group of visiting llama experts helped police in Georgia capture an escaped llama that baffled residents.

Oconee County Georgia Sheriff’s Office shared photos of the loose llama which citizens originally reported as a baby camel on the run.

“Around 4:00PM, dispatch notified me that someone had reported ‘a baby camel running loose in Epps Bridge Road,'” Chief Deputy Lee Weems said. “Our deputies are not trained in South American camelid identification, but they quickly determined that the animal in question was actually a llama.”

The situation became even more bizarre when a group of llama experts helped police capture the fugitive llama.

“Deputies, with the assistance of, and I kid you not, several llama experts who just happened to be traveling on Epps Bridge Road at that exact moment, managed to corral the llama in the dumpster area behind the Cook Out,” Weems said.

Cook Out employees supplied police with a bag of carrots to lure the llama as police managed to contact the animal’s owner, who brought the llama home in a van.

“We do not know at this time whether it just wanted to go for a stroll or if it was concerned about the weather forecast this weekend and was attempting to buy bread and milk,” Weems said. “I asked, but it refused to answer questions.”
