SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The LDS Church has announced it will restrict Internet access in its meetinghouses effective this month.

A spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a statement on Tuesday:

“The Church periodically reviews our filtering policy to improve the experience for people in our buildings and meetinghouses,” it says. “This update to the Church’s Internet filtering policy was sent to members of the Church whose calling or responsibility in their local congregation are impacted and is directed at non-Church-related use of the Internet which creates difficulty for those who are trying to use social media for Church purposes.”

According to information published on LDS.org, the intent of the change is to allow people to focus on “worship” and to free up access for leaders who need to use the Internet for Church-related purposes.

It is “Meant to be a way to further the purposes of the Church, enhance worship experiences, and support administrative functions,” a statement on the site indicated.

Non-Church sites to be blocked include:

  • Amazon Video
  • Big Fish Games
  • Clash of Clans
  • Flixster
  • Gamespot
  • Hulu
  • Instagram
  • Kahoot
  • MySpace
  • Netflix
  • Pandora
