ROCKVILLE, Utah, June 9, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — State wildfire officials say the 72-acre Rockville Fire burning in southern Utah was 60% contained Sunday.

The human-caused wildfire started Friday afternoon on private land within the Rockville city limits, according to Utah Fire Info.

“Firefighters are still on scene continuing mop up operations on the fire. Mop up operations involve lots of physical labor where firefighters search for and extinguish all heat and fire near the fire line,” Utah Fire Info stated on social media Sunday.

Crews made good progress over the weekend as the wildfire was just 20% contained Saturday morning.

The wildfire initially threatened structures and led to evacuations in the area. State Route 9 also was temporarily closed Friday as crews began battling the fire.

All evacuation orders have been lifted, and SR-9 has reopened in both directions.
