Peter Sarsgaard Joins Denzel Washington in “The Magnificent Seven”
LOS ANGELES, May 21 (UPI) — Peter Sarsgaard may join Denzel Washington in “The Magnificent Seven.”
The 44-year-old actor is reportedly in final negotiations for the Antoine Fuqua-directed remake. Sarsgaard would portray villain Bartholomew Bogue, a robber baron who lords over a small town.
Ethan Hawke, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, Byung-Hun Lee and Matt Bomer are also attached to the film. Former “Game of Thrones” actor Jason Momoa was to appear, but has dropped out of the project.
The original 1960 movie starred Yul Brenner and Steve McQueen, and presented a Western-style interpretation of Akira Kurosawa classic “Seven Samurai.” Fuqua previously directed Washington and Hawke in “Training Day,” and Washington, Pratt and Bennett in “The Equalizer.”
Sarsgaard is known for such films as “The Man in the Iron Mask,” “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Garden State.” He last appeared in NBC miniseries “The Slap,” and is scheduled for “Black Mass” with Johnny Depp and “Prima” with Vera Farmiga.
