HOLLADAY, Utah, Oct. 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – Eight people were injured Thursday in an early afternoon fire in Holladay, including six first responders.
Firefighters and police were called to the scene of a duplex apartment fire at 6032 South 2075 East about 1:25 p.m. Upon arrival, they were told at least one person was trapped in one of the units, only to discover there were two people trapped once they battled their way inside.
One of those injured was rushed to the hospital in what medical personnel deemed to be potentially life-threatening injuries, although that information has yet to be confirmed. The other resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, according to Unified Fire Authority Public Information Officer Benjamin Porter. It is unclear if the other resident lived in that unit or was a neighbor involved in a rescue attempt.
Also among the injured was a Unified firefighter, who was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Five Unified police officers, reported to be first to arrive, also suffered smoke inhalation, along with other injuries. They, too, were treated at the scene.
Porter told Gephardt Daily the fire was being investigated as a possible criminal matter, but was unable provide further details.
Three pets were rescued in the operation, while two children and two adults were displaced by the fire.
