CLEARFIELD, Utah, Oct. 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The man struck and killed Wednesday evening as he waited outside his disabled truck on Interstate 15 in Clearfield has been identified.

The man who died was Romualdo Hernandez Sanchez, 35, of Saratoga Springs, a Utah Highway Patrol update says.

The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m.

“A blue Chevy Silverado was stopped in the HOV lane on I-15 southbound milepost 335,” the update says.

“The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was standing outside between the truck and the concrete barrier. It was dark and traffic was approaching the Silverado at freeway speeds.

“A silver Malibu was in the HOV lane and had another vehicle ahead of it swerve the last second to the right. The driver of the Malibu swerved to the left, clipped the rear of the Silverado, struck the pedestrian, and crashed along the concrete wall.

“The male pedestrian (Hernandez Sanchez) was pronounced dead on scene.”

The Malibu was driven by a 25-year-old man and had another male as a passenger. Both sustained minor injuries, the UHP statement says.

“There is a possibility the 35-year-old male was changing his left rear wheel. This is preliminary information and this case is under investigation.”

Gephardt Daily will share any additional information that is released.
