ROY, Utah, April 15, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Crime scene investigators from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office have joined Roy Police in a homicide investigation at the Midland Community, a manufactured home park at 3860 Midland Drive.
The WCSO’s Metro Crime Scene Unit was first dispatched to a residence at 4:27 p.m. Wednesday and officers spent the night processing the scene at a mobile home on C Street.
Police remained tight-lipped about their investigation overnight before revealing it was a homicide case, and a male victim had been shot inside the home and was deceased.
Roy PD later clarified the victim, identified as Steve Bailey, 38, had been shot inside the home Saturday and taken to another location where first responders were summoned Monday to a reported cardiac arrest incident. Medical personnel quickly determined Bailey had been shot and a multi-agency homicide investigation was launched.
Investigators also revealed overnight they were scrutinizing a possible male suspect, later identified as Daniel Lee Johnson, 48. Johnson is currently being held at the Weber County Jail facing charges of “murder, obstruction of justice, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and abuse or desecration of a dead human body,” according to jail documents.
A motive for the alleged homicide has yet to be divulged.
Police stressed early on there was no threat to the public and that more information would be forthcoming.
Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information is made available.
