EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 42-year-old man is dead after the semi truck he was driving on westbound Interstate 70 plunged 200 feet to the bottom of Eagle Canyon over the weekend.

The deceased has been identified as Thomas B. Bowler, of Bunkerville, Nev., the Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The incident occurred on I-70 at mile post 118, the news release said. A caller notified UHP at approximately 1:50 p.m. Sunday there was a semi truck and trailer in Eagle Canyon.

“The semi truck appeared to go over a concrete barrier some time during the prior evening and fall approximately 200 feet into the bottom of the canyon,” the news release said.

Bowler was killed during the crash.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. Two hundred feet is a bit more than half the length of a football field.
