SANDY, Utah, April 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — East Sandy Elementary School, at 8295 S. 870 East, will have classes as scheduled on Monday, but the school will be on shelter-in-place status because of an apparent threat.
Sgt. Jason Nielsen, Sandy City Police Department, told Gephardt Daily that Canyons School District notified parents via email and text Sunday evening that shelter in place will be in effect.
The notifications also informed parents and guardians that there will be an extra police presence at the school all day Monday.
Parents also have the option of keeping their children home.
Nielsen did not elaborate on what the threat may have been or how it was received, but he said the school resource officer was alerted immediately and police have an active investigation underway.
Gephardt Daily will follow up on this developing story as more information becomes available.
