MAGNA, Utah, March 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Investigators in Magna are trying to determine the cause of an early house fire that destroyed a recently condemned home at 2941 S. Merton Way, 8750 West.
Witnesses told Gephardt Daily the fire broke out just before 3 a.m. with neighbors reporting heavy smoke flames pouring from the basement windows.
First fire crews arriving on the scene tried to knock down the blaze but were hampered by low water pressure.
The blaze was eventually brought under control, but not before burning into the second story of the home, which neighbors said had been a suspected drug house before being condemned about two months ago.
Investigators on scene said they’d yet to determine a cause and that transients may have been involved.
