OGDEN, Utah, Nov. 4, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Leavitt’s Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park, which installed a new statue of Jesus only about a week ago, has announced it was vandalized with spray paint.

“Our hearts are shattered to share that our beloved Jesus statue, which was placed in our park only a week ago, has been vandalized,” the business wrote on its Facebook page.

“This is a painful loss for our community, as it was a symbol of peace, inspiration, and solace for so many.”

The statue cannot be replaced, the post says.

“This is truly a one-of-a-kind treasure, as the casting mold was destroyed, making this the only sculpture of its kind. We feel blessed to share it with the community, and we’re heartbroken over this violation.

“The police have been notified and we’re offering a $2,000 reward to anyone who can help us identify the individuals responsible for this act.”

Anyone who has information on those responsible for the damage is asked to call the Ogden City Police Department. To reach the agency, call Weber County Dispatch at 801-395-8221.

“If you have any information, please reach out to us or contact local authorities,” the Leavitt’s post says. “We deeply appreciate any assistance you can provide in restoring peace and respect to our park and helping us protect this precious piece of history.”
