PAYSON, Utah, Nov. 11, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Payson Police responded to Payson Junior High Monday on a report of a student with a gun.
“A report came in that there was a student in possession of a firearm in the building,” says a statement issued by the school, in cooperation with Payson Police.
“The School Resource Officer and the administration located the student within minutes of the report. The student was taken into custody, and the firearm was located and secured.
“While these types of incidents can be concerning, there is no longer a threat posed to students or staff.”
The statement, signed by principal Kevin Mecham, said the well being of students and staff members “remain our highest priority. We are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure the continued safety of our school community. Law enforcement is continuing to investigate the situation.”
The statement also thanked students for “seeing something and saying something.”
