RICHFIELD, Utah, July 8, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Richfield man was taken to a hospital and later arrested after a gun went off in the waistband of his pants at Walmart.

Richfield police say Zachery Hampton, 26, apparently was adjusting a handgun tucked in the waistband of his pants when it went off in the self-checkout area of Walmart, 10 E. 1300 South.

Hampton fled the scene but was later found at a Richfield residence, police said in a news release Monday. He was transported to Sevier Valley Hospital for evaluation, the release says.

The extent of Hampton’s injuries was not disclosed. No other injuries were reported.
