ROY, Utah, Aug. 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who allegedly fled Roy City police on Saturday, then fired on officers who returned fire, died Tuesday morning at the hospital.
Roy City PD Sgt. Josh Taylor told Gephardt Daily in a message that the man was 46-year-old Jeremy Lundgreen.
An earlier news release says the incident began at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday when “the Roy City Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a suspect wanted in an Internet Crimes Against Children case for enticing a minor.
“While initially cooperative, the suspect ultimately decided to flee from the traffic stop.”
Lundgreen was later located in the area of 5650 South 2775 West.
“As soon as officers made contact with the suspect he immediately confronted officers with a firearm and began firing at them.”
The gun fight lasted several minutes, the statement says, with “officers returned fire, eventually striking the suspect. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital.”
“The Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol was activated and the investigation was turned over to the Weber County Attorney’s Office. All involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.”
