Salt Lake City detectives arrest shooting suspect

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City Police detectives have arrested an 20-year-old alleged shooting suspect.

According to the SLCPD PR Unit, the investigation began Sunday, July 14, 2024, about 2:37 a.m. when 911 operators received word of a shooting near 1500 N. Mandalay Road.

When officers arrived, they learned the 27-year-old victim had been driven to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“During the investigation, detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit identified the accused shooter,” the PR Unit news release said.

“On Thursday, July 18, 2024, detectives, with the assistance of the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) safely took the suspect into custody near 500 N. Redwood Road. Detectives then executed a court-authorized search warrant at the suspect’s home in West Valley City.”

The suspect, identified as Abdiaziz Ibrahim, is being held in the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on a no-bail hold.

“He’s been charged with felony discharge of a firearm resulting in bodily injury, aggravated assault resulting in bodily injury, and being a Category 1 restricted person in possession of a firearm.”
