UTAH, Jan. 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Big box store Shopko has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and will close 13 stores the corporation owns in Utah.
The stores to close in Utah include nine Shopko locations and four Hometown stores, owned by the same corporation. Locations range from Brigham City to the north to Blanding in the south.

“On January 16, 2019, Shopko, a leading operator of general merchandise stores throughout the Central, Western and Pacific Northwest regions of the U.S., announced that it, along with its subsidiaries, has filed voluntary petitions for a court-supervised financial restructuring under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code,” a company statement says.
“This announcement is an important step towards protecting our future and ensuring our ability to continue delivering the high-quality products and services that our customers are accustomed to receiving.”
It is not immediately known how many Utah workers will lose their jobs due to the closures.
