SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 12, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department have arrested a 47-year-old man who is accused of stabbing a man and two dogs.

The investigation started at 5:47 p.m. Monday when dispatch was alerted to a man stabbed at a motel at 176 W. 600 South. Salt Lake City Patrol officers arrived at the motel and began life-saving efforts. Paramedics with the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance took the victim to the hospital in stable condition.

During their investigation, officers learned the alleged suspect, Carl Henry, and the victim, a motel employee, got into an argument after their dogs started fighting.

“The victim told officers he tried separating the two fighting dogs, but Henry made no attempt to intervene,” the Salt Lake City Police statement says.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, Henry stabbed the victim’s dog and then stabbed the victim multiple times. Henry is also accused of stabbing his own dog in the neck.”

The statement said Henry had fled on foot, and officers searched, but could not find him. At 11:20 a.m. today, Nov. 12, dispatch was alerted that Henry had returned to his motel room, the SLCPD statement says.

“Officers quickly came up with a safety plan to arrest Henry. Officers approached Henry inside the motel and arrested him without incident. The SLCPD does not have any update on either dog, nor do we know their names, age, or breed.

“Henry is being charged with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and aggravated cruelty to animals.”

Gephardt Daily will share more information as it is available.
