SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 18, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Nathaniel Pratt Ferguson, 24, has been booked into the Salt Lake County jail system after police say he admitted to stabbing a victim on Thursday night.
Salt Lake City officers were dispatched to a stabbing at 1470 S. State St., and “discovered the victim lying near the sidewalk with a significant laceration to the abdomen,” Ferguson’s probable cause statement says.
“Officers on the scene observed that the victim’s intestines were visible.”
A witness identified Ferguson, who remained at the scene, as the suspect, the probable cause statement says.
“A large kitchen knife was recovered near the sidewalk in the street.”
Post Miranda, Ferguson was interviewed and “admitted to stabbing the victim,” the arrest document says.
“Ferguson stated that the victim had requested that he be stabbed. Prior to the stabbing, Ferguson stated he obtained the knife from a different location, claiming he uses the knife for personal protection. He then returned to the scene and stabbed the victim in the abdomen one or two times. Ferguson also described the weapon as a large kitchen knife.”
Police discovered “Ferguson has an active protective order in which he is the respondent issued April 2024.”
“Without provocation Ferguson stabbed another individual — describing it in a manner of a plan and seeming unfazed by the incident that occurred and the severity of injury.”
He was jailed for investigation of alleged:
- Aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony
- Possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a class A misdemeanor
Ferguson was ordered held without bail.
