IRON COUNTY, Utah July 26, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials announced new wildfires Friday evening, the newest already 400 acres in size.
“The Third Canyon Fire ignited this evening in a remote part of Iron County southwest of Minersville,” Utah Fire Info reported online Friday at 8:30 p.m.
“The fire is burning in brush and grass, and is estimated at 400 acres. Air resources will continue to lay retardant to stop the fire spread.”
About a half hour before that the interagency fire monitoring service noted another new start: “The lightning-caused Rock Corral Fire located in Beaver County burned 20 acres and is 50% contained. Several ground resources will remain to finish mopping up and constructing fire line to full containment.”
The Dikker Hill Fire in Summit County east of Echo, which grew by 200 acres in a few hours Wednesday evening, is now 84% contained, Utah Fire Info said earlier Friday. “The hard work from fire resources, and a little rain, made this a short duration for the Type 3 team.
“As of 7 p.m., command of the fire was transferred back to the local unit. The fire did not grow, remaining at 361 acres, and crews will work through the weekend to achieve full containment.”
