NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (UPI) — Former Turing Pharmaceuticals chief executive, and the person some refer to as “The Most Hated Man in America,” said over the weekend that he’s been scammed out of $15 million for trying to buy an album by rapper Kanye West.
Martin Shkreli, who became known last year when his company raised the price of Daraprim by 5,000 percent, said he paid $15 million for Wet’s album, “Life of Pablo,” directly from the label. But the person he paid the money to, he says, was a scammer.
Shkreli, 32, tweeted Sunday that he sent the amount in bitcoin but received nothing in return.
“Who the (expletive) has my fifteen million dollars?” one tweet read.
“I need my money back this isn’t a (expletive) joke,” said another.
Shkreli is presently mired in a federal fraud case stemming from money management involving investors at his firm last year.
The former executive said the creator of bitcoin has agreed to help him retrieve his lost cash, adding, “I always win.”
This isn’t the first time, though, that Shkreli has shelled out big bucks for a musical album. He spent $2 million on an album from the Wu-Tang Clan in November.
Shkreli also reportedly had a credit card number stolen online. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the two incidents are related.
“This is the worst day of my life. My mom said don’t deal with these kinds of people. Nothing good comes from rap music,” Shkreli also said, Sky News reported.
