SPRINGDALE, Utah, May 6, 2024 — A man died Monday afternoon while hiking at Zion National Park.
Zion National Park rangers responded to reports of an unresponsive hiker at Scout Lookout and began performing CPR on the man, according to a news release. His age was not disclosed.
Additional rangers hiked to the patient with medical equipment and began treating him, officials said. After nearly 90 minutes of administering emergency medical care, the man was pronounced dead, the release says.
The West Rim Trail was temporarily closed during the rescue operations. At least 33 individuals assisted, including National Park Service search and rescue team members, dispatchers, emergency medical technicians, paramedics and law enforcement.
“The park would like to thank Intermountain Life Flight for their support on the incident,” the release says.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Office of the Medical Examiner and National Park Service are investigating the cause of the man’s death.
No other information about the hiker or what led to his death was immediately released.
