OGDEN, Utah, Oct. 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden Police Department school resource officer has been fired from the force after being charged with alleged sexual exploitation of a minor and other charges.

“On October 16, 2024 the Ogden Police Department learned OPD School Resource Officer Colton Johansen made a series of disclosures to an outside law enforcement agency which implicated his involvement in criminal conduct,” according to a press release posted online by Ogden Police Lt. Will Farr.

“Upon learning of these disclosures, a criminal case was immediately opened and referred to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office. Earlier this afternoon, the Davis County Sheriff’s Office arrested Officer Johansen on several criminal charges, including sexual exploitation of a minor, tampering with evidence, and official misconduct. We have and will continue to fully cooperate with their investigation,” the OPD press release said.

“In addition to the criminal case, an internal affairs investigation was initiated. Based on the information currently available, the conduct in question did not occur while Officer Johansen was acting in his capacity as a School Resource Officer. Our investigation has nevertheless revealed sufficient information to warrant his termination.

“The Ogden Police Department remains dedicated to upholding the trust placed in us by the public. We are committed to full transparency and ensuring that the community we serve can continue to rely on the professionalism and ethical conduct of its employees. Inquiries about the investigation or arrest will be directed to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.”
