SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Aug. 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — An arrest was made this week six days after a stabbing in South Salt Lake.

Danilo Andres Uriana Pushaina, 23, was arrested Thursday in connection with the July 26 incident. He was jailed for investigation of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony.

As in all cases, charges will be determined by the County Attorney’s Office.

South Salt Lake police responded to the stabbing scene, a local residence. The victim, identified as “A.S.,” was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a stab wound in the back from a large kitchen knife.

Multiple witnesses said Pushaina stabbed A.S. after an argument, Pushaina’s affidavit says.

“Investigators contacted Danilo, who refused to cooperate with the investigation and began to actively avoid law enforcement,” it says.

“Investigators were able to locate Danilo using investigative tactics and he was taken into custody. Post Miranda, Danilo admitted to stabbing A.S. following an argument. Danilo stated that he knew what he had done was criminal, and he avoided police because he was scared.”

Pushaina is in the country illegally and had planned to return to Texas within a few days, “and has actively been avoiding law enforcement since the day of the aggravated assault,” says the affidavit, filed by an officer of the South Salt Lake Police Department.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County jail system and ordered held without bail.
