VERNAL, Utah, Aug. 14, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police say they have a suspect after a young woman was badly injured in a hit-and-run Tuesday in Vernal.
“On Aug. 13, 2024, at 10:40 a.m., Vernal City officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle striking a bicyclist at the intersection of 500 S. Vernal Ave.,” Vernal police said online Tuesday night.
“Witnesses reported that the bicyclist was struck by the suspect vehicle and dragged approximately three blocks before the vehicle fled the scene.”
The 21-year-old Vernal woman was transported by ambulance to Ashley Regional Medical Center and subsequently airlifted to a hospital in the Salt Lake area, police said.
“Vernal police officers and detectives were able to locate the suspect vehicle in a local apartment complex. A person of interest was detained and taken into custody.”
The investigation is ongoing. The status of the victim is currently unknown. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family.
