BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, Dec. 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Hooper man was booked into jail Friday, five days after Brigham City police allege that he fired bullets at the residence of his former girlfriend.
The suspect, age 26, was arrested for investigation of 11 counts of felony discharge of a firearm, listed as a third-degree felony. Gephardt Daily is not naming him to protect his alleged victim’s identity.
Police were called to the area of the residence at about 2:56 a.m. Dec. 15 after a caller reported hearing gunshots, but officers could not find evidence of shots fired, the suspect’s affidavit says.
At about 10 p.m. the next night, a woman called police saying she had been out of town, and returned to discover multiple bullet holes in the front door.
“Patrol officers responded and I responded as the on-call detective to investigate,” the alleged perpetrator’s affidavit says. “We observed 11 bullet holes in the front door. The bullets went through the front door at an upwards trajectory, which would be consistent with having been fired from the roadway,” the suspect’s arrest documents say.
“The bullets went into the ceiling of the interior dining/living room of the home and at least one bullet fragmented sending shrapnel into the wall and window that are opposite the front door.”
The resident told police a possible suspect, whose relationship with the victim had ended in November.
“Their intimate relationship had included many instances of physical domestic violence assaults perpetrated against one another. One example provided by the victim occurred in June 2024 and included [including the suspect] punching the victim in the face, injuring her jaw and breaking her braces.
“Since their relationship ended the victim has begun a new relationship with her current boyfriend. [The suspect] has attempted to see the victim on several occasions to discuss things, rekindle their relationship, or return personal property.”
The victim told police she “has not sought to see [the suspect] and had avoided him.”
On Dec. 15, he reportedly texted her.
“These texts indicated that on that date at about 0125 hours [the suspect] was at the victim’s residence in Brigham City and wishing to return personal property to her. He states, ‘Do you just want your sh*t on the porch or inside,'” the affidavit says.
“The victim indicates in the texts she does not want to meet him or have her property returned to her. He replies, ‘You got me f***ed up.'”
A vehicle linked to the suspect was recorded by a License Plate Reader in Perry, the statement says. The vehicle was later located outside the suspect’s residence, in Hooper.
The suspect declined to speak with police “and asked to speak to an attorney about wanting to be guaranteed certain concessions before he would cooperate in the investigation,” the affidavit says.
A search warrant served on the suspect’s residence turned up “12 firearms of various calibers, ammunition, marijuana grow operations, (and a) large collection of knives.”
The suspect was ordered held without bail.
