50 Firefighters Battle Brush Fire Near Jordanelle State Park

JORDANELLE STATE PARK, UTAH – July 27, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said a brush fire that sent flames shooting 20 to 30 feet in the air is about 80 per cent contained. The rest of the blaze, which threatened residences near Fox Bay, west of Jordanelle State Park, is expected to be contained within the hour.

Officials said the fire started around noon when a power line went down. Janet Carson, spokeswoman for Wasatch Fire District, said: “It was very close to the Fox Bay Condominiums, there was something that happened and a power line went down.

“It was about two acres, but there were very high flames and very strong winds. We were able to contain it and stop it getting anywhere near the buildings. At the closest, it was about 100 yards away from the structures.”

Carson said all of Fox Bay and the shores were evacuated and that evacuation lasted about two hours. She said every station from Wasatch County was called to the fire, as well as one engine from Park City, plus the Forest Service; a total of around 45 firefighters in total.

“No animals were hurt and all the structures are safe,” Carson added.
