DAVIS COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Davis County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a new scam targeting the friends and family of jail inmates.

“Scammers are calling loved ones of individuals in our care and custody,” the DCSO news release says. “They’re falsely offering early release for those willing to pay a fee.

“They may use language such as ‘the Ankle Monitor Program’ and ‘guarantee’ your loved one will be out before Christmas if you pay upwards of $800.”

The Davis County Jail does have an Ankle Monitor Program, the release says, but it’s a court-ordered program, and cannot be purchased.

“Hang up on scammers!”
