Driver killed in Park City crash; witness says victim was racing other vehicle before hitting tree

PARK CITY, Utah, July 18, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – A 29-year-old driver was killed early Thursday morning after striking a tree along State Route 224 in Park City.

According to a witness statement provided to the Utah Highway Patrol, the fiery crash took place about 1:37 a.m. when the driver and lone occupant of a 2019 Subaru WRX lost control of the car while racing another vehicle near mile marker six.

“The WRX became fully engulfed,” and the 29-year-old male driver, “suffered fatal injuries as a result,” the UHP said.

Investigators say they are in the process of tracking down the other vehicle involved.

SR-224 was closed in both directions until approximately 6:00 a.m.

The identity of the fatally injured driver has yet to be released.
