KEARNS, Utah, Oct. 5, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire responded to a blaze in an uninhabited Kearns home early Wednesday morning.
A caller alerted authorities to the fire in the area of 4512 W. 4955 South at approximately 5 a.m., said Unified Fire Authority spokesman Matthew McFarland.
McFarland said firefighters were able to douse the flames within a few minutes.
He added the home was condemned approximately three months ago, following heavy meth usage inside and several drug raids. He said the condemnation meant that no utilities were hooked up, so investigators are working to establish the cause of the fire, which may have been human caused.
McFarland said firefighters found evidence that people have been squatting inside the home. But no one was inside when the fire was discovered, and there were no injuries.
The extent of damage to the home is not yet known.
