WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, March 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The final suspect wanted in connection to a food stamps fraud case involving the FLDS Church has turned himself in.
Kimball Barlow surrendered to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, and has been booked into the Purgatory Jail. Barlow is scheduled to appear before a federal judge at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
He is one of 11 charged in the case brought against select officials in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by the FBI. The case charges the misuse of SNAP benefits, formerly known as food stamps, by non-authorized people and for non-food purchases.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that FLDS leaders and members have cheated taxpayers out of more than $12 million. Among the others arrested in the case are Seth and Lyle Jeffs, brothers of imprisoned church leader Warren Jeffs.
