FRESNO, California, May 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A married couple serving in California as full-time senior missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were involved in a Saturday traffic accident, which killed the wife and critically injured her husband.

Killed was Sister Mary Hardin, 65. Elder Paul Hardin, also 65, is hospitalized. The couple, from San Antonio, Texas, had been serving in the California Fresno Mission since January of this year.

The accident happened when the Hardins were stopped at a red light, and a pickup truck struck their vehicle at a high rate of speed. Sister Hardin died at the scene.

“We invite all to offer prayers for those involved, especially Elder Hardin,” says a statement released Sunday by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“We send our deepest condolences to the entire Hardin family, their friends, and the missionaries with whom they were serving. We pray they will each feel comfort and peace at this difficult time and experience an outpouring of the Savior’s love during this time of sorrow.”
