LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah, Aug. 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews have reopened Little Cottonwood Canyon after mudslides following heavy rains closed it and other Utah roadways on Thursday.
Crews opened the road a little before noon on Saturday.
“With Little Cottonwood Canyon open at noon today, all of the UDOT roads that were closed due to recent mudslides have been reopened,” tweeted Carlos Braceras, Executive Director for the Utah Department of Transportation.
“This represents extraordinary effort once again by the same people who kept your roads safe during last winter’s heavy snowfall. Thanks to you all!”
Crews worked all day Friday and overnight into Saturday to remove debris, including boulders described as being the size of cars, from the roadway.
“Crews have worked overnight to get the road cleared of debris and make sure the road is safe,” says a UtahUDOT tweet. “There is still some long term work that needs to be done, so we ask drivers to drive carefully through the canyon.”
