WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, May 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A lockout placed on Stansbury Elementary Monday morning has been lifted.

An initial statement from the Granite School District said the West Valley City school had entered lockout protocol “due to a homeless individual who wandered onto campus. Law enforcement is working to remove that individual from our campus. There is no direct threat to the school and the protocol was enacted out of an abundance of caution by law enforcement.

“Students are being escorted directly into the building, and are safe and secure. School is proceeding as normal.”

An update issued a short time later, at 9:12 Monday, said the lockout had been lifted.

“The suspect has been detained and is in custody. He is currently being evaluated by medical personnel. The protocol will remain in effect for several more minutes until they are able to transport him off campus. School continues to proceed as normal. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to keep our students safe.”

Any additional information will be posted on the Granite School District website, the statement says.
