Magna Man in Stolen Camero Takes Officers on High Speed Chase Along 1-15
WEBER COUNTY, UTAH – July 18, 2015 (Gepahardt Daily) – A Magna man in a stolen a Camero took officers on a high speed chase through two counties before crashing in Ogden Friday night.
According to Sgt. Jacob Cox, Utah Highway Patrol, the Camero was stolen on Thursday from a residence in Lone Peak, Utah.
On Friday around 8 p.m., Davis County dispatch received reports of three vehicles racing on I-15 near Parrish Lane in Centerville. The vehicles were reported as a red older-model Camaro, silver Neon, and a newer black Camaro, later identified as the vehicle stolen from Lone Peak.
“Our Trooper attempted to intercept the three vehicles and was able to stop the Neon, however, another Trooper who attempted to stop the black Camaro, was unsuccessful as the driver would not stop and eventually lead our Trooper into a pursuit,” said Cox.
The Camaro’s driver entered a construction zone and suddently stopped. Troopers believe he was attempting to turn around when he saw a construction worker in a truck ahead of him so he backed out and as he was leaving the construction zone he struck one of the UHP officers vehicle in the back causing minimal damage.
The Camaro then continued northbound on I-15 and exited onto SR-89 where the pursuit was terminated at that time. “Our troopers terminated the pursuit because they felt it was becoming too dangerous,” said Cox. “It was shortly after this the Kaysville Police Department spotted the Camaro within their city limits so they pursued him for a short while, but also terminated their pursuit just before it approached SR-193.”
Ogden PD found the vehicle when it crashed on 34th Ave and Adams Ave in Ogden. “It appears the left front rim of the Camaro was damaged from the earlier collision with Trooper Sampson’s patrol car, the rim had broken and the tire was destroyed,” said Cox.
Police said Witnesses watch the driver, later identified as Eduardo Correa, 20, of Magna, UT, and a female passenger had fled on foot. Police were able to locate the driver hiding in a garage.
Correa arrested and booked into Davis County jail on charges of reckless driving, failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving on a denied license, and assault by a prisoner.
The female passenger is still unidentified. Ogden CSI has processed the vehicle for fingerprints to identify her. There are possible ties to Correa to several car thefts and burglaries in the area of Lone Peak.
