SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 22, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 41-year-old man is dead after a Sunday night collision between a car and an electric scooter.
The man who died has been identified as Ismael Ontivaros.
The investigation started at 8:56 p.m. near 800 W. North Temple. Based on the preliminary information, a car going west on North Temple Street hit Ontivaros as he rode the rented scooter south on 800 West, says a statement issued by the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Ambulance crews and the Salt Lake City Fire Department provided life-saving aid to Ontivaros. He died at the hospital, the statement says.
The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene. The specific cause of the crash remains under investigation. Impairment may be a factor and additional investigative work is needed.
The 22-year-old man who was driving the car remained at the scene. No arrests or citations have been issued or made, the SLCPD statement says.
This crash marks the fourth traffic-related death in Salt Lake City for 2024.
