HOLLADAY, UTAH – September 22, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Unified Police got a bit more than they bargained for Monday night, and, so too, did a wanted fugitive.
It all started when police received a single call around 8 p.m. for an armed robbery near the old Cottonwood Mall at 4600 South Highland Drive. It led to a flurry of police activity over the next 90 minutes involving four suspects, three crime scenes and one arrest.
According to Unified Police Lt. Manfred Lassig, a man and woman who had reserved a limo ride from a local hotel to the Holladay area suddenly pulled a knife, robbing the driver of cash before escaping into a nearby neighborhood.
A short while later, UPD officers spotted a man matching the general description of the male limo robbery suspect. When police ordered him stop he took off running but not before ditching a hand gun. He also escaped into the neighborhood.
As the police search continued, officers forming a containment perimeter spied a man matching the limo robber’s description. Officers ordered him to stop, and, he, too, bolted only to be taken down by a dog from the K-9 unit. The man was taken into custody with multiple bite wounds. Police soon realized, however, he had nothing to do with the limo robbery, but was a wanted fugitive with multiple outstanding warrants. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for bite wounds and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
The couple originally sought in the limo robbery remain at large.
So, too does the the suspect who fled police after being seen ditching a gun.
The police investigation continues.
